People spend thousands of dollars everyday and spend endless hours of time researching and studying tutorials on Search Engine Optimization…and you are about to get it for FREE! No strings attached! If you practice these methods on your websites and blogs, you should see positive results in organic search, without spending a dime.
Here are my tried and true techniques for Search Engine Optimization in today’s current environment:
- Do your keyword research for your product, website or blog, and find a Long Tail Keyword with low to moderate competition with sizeable monthly search traffic.
- Use your Long Tail Keyword AS YOUR DOMAIN NAME! The more targeted you are, the better you will rank for that keyword.
- Avoid keywords that are broad. People usually type in phrases (long tail keywords) in the search bar.
- Try for a .ORG instead of a .COM. In my experience, the .ORGs tend to get a little bump from some search engines.
- Use your domain name/long tail keyword as your ONLY keyword in your meta keywords. If you must use more Long Tail Keywords, keep it to 4 maximum!
- Make sure your Meta Description has your Long Tail Keyword included in it. Make sure you keep your description to less than 70 characters and invite visitors to your site. Remember, this is the little description that shows up in the search engines, this is what the public will see. Don’t ever leave your Meta Description blank.
- Backlinks, Backlinks, Backlinks. Get your backlinking going.
- Content is KING! Write and post only fresh, unique and original content for your website or blog. Use CopyScape to check and make sure your content is 100% unique.
- Articles and Post Content should be a minimum of 500 words.
- Research some associated keywords for your article and post titles, then use them based on low competition and sizeable monthly search traffic.
- Include the article or post title/long tail keyword keyword within the article, a minimum of 1 time.
- Try to post fresh content on your website or blog daily. A minimum of 3 times per week is a must though. The more fresh and unique content, the more the search engines will come back and crawl your site. Google LOVES fresh content!
- DO NOT scrape content from other sites. Google’s Panda will penalize your site! Scrapers and copyright infringers will be detected and your site will suffer in the rankings, possibly even be de-listed. Websites with original content are rewarded with better search rankings! Keep it real and you will do well.
- Setup Pinging on your Website or blog, so everytime you make a new post, you are inviting the search engines to come on in and have a party!
- Use a XML Sitemap on your website. Google XML Sitemap is a great WordPress plugin, and of course it is FREE!
- Make sure your RSS Feed looks good and is functional. Try using Feedburner from Google too, it is an excellent Feed.
- YOU MUST setup a Facebook Page that matches the title of your Website Domain. Stay consistent with your branding.
- After setting up your Facebook Fan Page (not the same as your personal FB page), you will want to add a free Facebook App like RSS Graffiti or similar, to auto post your website posts to your Facebook Fan Page Wall.
- Invite all of your friends, family, co-workers and any others to FAN your Facebook Page.
- $$$ You can spend money, and it is helpful, on Facebook Ads. If you find fan pages that are similar to what you are doing or selling, then target THOSE fans of those pages. Buy Per Click ads and create a few different ads. Test your ads, see which ones bring you fans. You can see all of the demographic and individual ad campaign success in your Facebook Ads Panel once you get started. You can also set your Facebook Ads to send the visitors who click on it straight to your website, bringing additional eyeballs and visitors to your site.
- Make sure you have a Facebook Like Box and or Button on the top of your website homepage, so once visitors arrive, they can LIKE your Facebook Page.
- There are paid WordPress Plugins that are very effective and can help with things like Backlinking.
- My most highly recommended paid plugin, is the Automatic Backlink Creator. You have a small monthly fee, but can set 550 backlinks to your site or individual pages, using whatever keywords you choose…but I would continue to use your chosen Long Tail Keywords that pertain to your site with low to medium competition and sizeable monthly search traffic.
Friends, this is just a small drop in the SEO bucket…but if you follow the above techniques, you should see some nice results. It has worked for me EVERYTIME!
Below is a list of links to help you do Keyword Research, the Automatic Backlink Creator for creating links, and a great article directory to get content ideas (but remember to write your own and make it original).
